They manage to stay level minded and make sure that whatever step they take is always for the patient’s betterment. Being an EMT is difficult because you have to be ready for any situation, along with knowing basic life support (BLM) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).

Job Description

EMT’s have specific job descriptions that they need to follow through. They need to make sure that they fulfill their responsibilities fully and completely.

Their job descriptions are as follows:

  1. EMT’s are responsible for the transportation of patients. In an emergency, the EMT’s are called, and the requirement is that they will provide safe transportation service from the place of incident to the hospital. 
  2. The EMT’s are responsible for arriving at the scene of the accident and immediately assessing the situation. 
  3. One primary responsibility they have is that they need to make sure that the patient’s vitals are stable and that, if needed, they can perform the necessary procedures to save the life of the patient.
  4. Along with making sure that the patient’s health is taken care of, they also make sure reports are being made and documented. Documentation of personal information of the patient is necessary for the hospital. 
  5. They need to be able to manage the primary injuries that may often occur, such as stitching and bandaging a wound.

When deciding whether you wish to be an EMT, it is necessary that you first understand how far you can go in this field. In a year, at a minimum, an EMT can earn up to $33,000, with the top earners taking a possibility off $51,000 yearly. As of 2019, a total of 265,200 EMT’s have joined the force, and it is expected to increase more in the coming years.

EMT training is tough and generally takes some time to power through, but you are eligible to become a paramedic once you do. It takes a lot of your time, and the stress that comes with being an EMT is another story. The salary is okay, but it is more important to help someone in their immediate time of need.

It would be remiss not to mention the pressure that comes with being an EMT. It is a difficult job, and it takes time to adjust to it, but when you do get the hang of it, you will realize that helping people in emergencies is a different experience. There is nothing quite like it.
